how would I properly bid the installation of a suspended ceiling?
I know someone who wants me to install just the rails for the suspended ceiling, they will install the panels etc… what I am wondering is how would you bid a job like this? I am a painting and drywall guy and took this on as a favor but have no idea what to charge. The job is 5,000 square feet and once again I am only installing the framework / rails for the ceiling. Thanks in advance!
It depends on a lot of missing information. First i wouldn’t recommend such a large amount unless you know what you are doing. You can screw up a lot of money in material. That being said the rails are called Mains and tee’s. Is this job going to be inspected? Do you have codes to worry about? Are you buying the material? Do you have a Laser? Is it under the table? Will you get a 1099? The bare minimum i will do one for is .20 cent a foot. I like to get .25 or .30. So 5,000 sq ft you should charge between 1,000 and 1,250 for labor. I don’t know the specifics. It would take one ceiling man around 3 days for a low ceiling with a clear floor. At that price you will make about 30 bucks an hour.
